REVIEW - from another friend....

I've only read Chapter 5 and I am so impressed that your voice has stood the test of time. Descriptive, powerful, completely submerged in every character's experience.

Is VIRGINS! pornographic or not?

REVIEW of Chapter One - from another friend:

Anyway, I have finished the Mick the Moron section. From an emotional point of view, I dislike him. He is shallow and selfish. Who in hell would screw somebody--a virgin no less, although not unwilling--without a condom, more than once, and say that it was safe to do so. I could kick his ass for the irresponsible ways he treated Zola.

Well, so much for emotion. If I may be somewhat objective and of the formalist criticism ilk, you handled the erotic scenes quite delicately, so to speak, thus escaping any charge of pornography. The old Shakers characterized fornication rather unromantically as "sweaty grunting," which has some truth in it, I suspect. Also, Mick the Moron does refer to your being noisy during fornication, but you escape pornography again by not detailing it (a la hard corn porn films).

All in all, I think that so far the work A-1. There are cliche and "cheap" places you could have gone to develop some titillation for the reader, but since you did not go to such places, you have a damned good start, and I look forward to the next chapter.

Love lots,
Zola

I love your book - packed full of wonderful words and wisdom - following your footsteps - My goodness you have a terrific voice in writing and I love it. I will confess that your choice of YOU through out is so different...the 1st chapter was a struggle with my delexia (sp) and I had to reread some paragraphs to understand and for the life of me, I really don't see how you kept things straight.

I am on page 222 - found 3 small type-o's and marked lightely with pencil. I love your name Zola - I will change my name to that in my next life. (SMILE) You have a way
with words and I am enjoying every min.

This book has gone with me everywhere I travel and I read slowly when ever I can...Good for you!

Hi, My mom is reading your book, and she said she can't believe what a great writer you are. Her boyfriend wants to read it next and was skimming last night and said that he thought you were also a great writer, and that your book could make lots of money. He will write an Amazon review for you after he reads it.
